The Enrichment Hour with Mike Schwager
"Enrich Your Life...Enrich Our World"
Welcome to The Enrichment Hour with host Mike Schwager. Mike, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Enrichment.com, invites you to join him as he interviews celebrities, authors and opinion leaders on subjects that include spirituality; human potential and motivation; humanitarian news; animal advocacy; inspiration; science with a new paradigm perspective; culture and the arts; dialogue between religions, cultures, genders and ethnicities; and the movies. The hour will be divided between guest interviews, news and commentaries. The underlying premise and philosophy of “The Enrichment Hour” is Reverence-for-Life – all Life.
Life is sacred. The ground of Reality is Consciousness. That is the realization emerging as we move forward on our Journey. As Rainer Maria Rilke said, “The future enters into us, in order to transform itself in us, long before it happens.” Our prayer is that the future of a world where humankind honors and reveres all Life is the future entering into us now. Reverence for Life includes an honoring of Life’s purpose, which has to do with first, appreciating the sanctity of pure Beingness of all life forms; and second, seeing creativity, freedom and fulfillment as each individual’s birthright, where each person lives life as the unique individualized creative expression that he or she “is” in the world. Each person represents the impulse of Evolution-as-Spirit to grow and manifest in unique, creative and loving ways. “The Enrichment Hour” hopes to reflect this outlook in all our shows. Listeners are encouraged to call-in.

Guests:
Seymour B. Ginsburg author of The Masters Speak: An American Businessman Encounters Ashish and Gurdjieff
and
Michael Neill internationally renowned success coach and the best-selling author of You Can Have What You Want, Feel Happy Now! and the Effortless Success audio program.
The Masters Speak: An American Businessman Encounters Ashish and Gurdjieff is the detailed account of Seymour Ginsburg’s remarkable quest for life’s deeper meaning. As co-founder of mega-retail giant Toys”R”Us, Seymour, better known as Sy, knew worldly success, and the shrewd ambition it takes to get there. But with the tragic, untimely death of his young wife, Sy was suddenly left to raise a grieving family alone. For the first time, he found no comfort in his prosperity.
Like so many “seekers,” Sy was wary and anxious for direct spiritual experience. Armed with a mission to prove higher consciousness, Sy travels the world over to study, firsthand, the “spiritual greats” of his time. The Masters Speak recounts Sy’s curious meetings with enigmatic, controversial public figures such as Sathya Sai Baba, Jiddu Krishnamurti, and Madame de Salzman. This book also chronicles Sy’s extensive experience with Gurdjieff’s famous “work.”
In his search for the ultimate truth, Sy meets a monk who would quickly become his most endearing teacher and friend, Sri Madhava Ashish. Sy and Ashish’s decades-long correspondence lays the intimate foundation for this book. Sy’s raw honesty, doubts, criticisms, and even occasional hostility, makes for a spiritual discussion that the western seeker can truly relate to. Ashish, a Scottish engineer turned Hindu master, responds with wisdom that is both sober and incredibly non-dogmatic. With beautiful intricacy, The Masters Speak conveys Ashish’s steadfast declaration of an intrinsic unity of all being, a “Unitive Vision.”
This compilation of intimate letters, discourse, and previously published essays, provides readers of all traditions with solid food for spiritual thought. Embark with Sy on his extensive exploration of the root of consciousness through Gurdjieffian teachings, dream analysis, “life energy”, and beyond.
Seymour B. Ginsburg was born in Chicago, IL, in 1934, and graduated from Northwestern University with degrees in accountancy and law. A founder of the predecessor business and the first president of Toys R Us, he was for many years involved in commodities trading. He met Sri Madhava Ashish while on a private visit to India in 1978. Sy is co-founder of the Gurdjieff Institute of Florida, and the former president of the Theosophical Society in south Florida.
He is also the author of Gurdjieff Unveiled (Lighthouse) and co-author of Gurdjieff: A New Introduction to His Teaching. Sy is a lecturer and teacher on theosophical subjects. He currently divides his time between South Florida and Chicago.
The publisher of The Masters Speak is Quest Books.
Michael Neill is an internationally renowned success coach and the best-selling author of You Can Have What You Want, Feel Happy Now! and the Effortless Success audio program. He has spent the past 20 years as a coach, adviser, friend, mentor and creative spark plug to celebrities, CEO's, royalty, and people who want to get more out of their lives. His books have been translated into 8 languages, and his public talks and seminars have been well received at the United Nations and on five continents.
Michael hosts a weekly talk show on HayHouseRadio and he’s the author of the new book, Supercoach: 10 Secrets to Transform Anyone's Life. The publisher is Hay House.
“Why does this always happen to me?”
“What did I do wrong to deserve this?” “Why don’t I ever get what I’m entitled to?”
If you’ve asked yourself any of the above questions, then you’ve been thinking like a victim. According to Michael Neill, you’d be better off asking, “What is the hidden opportunity in this situation?” or “How can I transform these circumstances into something creative and productive, filled with opportunities?” In his new book, Neill reveals the secrets to stop thinking like a victim and start living a happier, more productive life.
“The fact is, with our recession and rocky economy, unemployment on the rise, and the stock market so volatile, it’s easy to continually come up with new reasons to justify feeling like a victim,” says Neill. “But people don’t realize that they are creating their own reality, their own self-fulfilling prophesy of victimization. Life is a contact sport — stuff happens; some people get sidetracked with self-pity while others survive and create a positive outlook about the situation.”
Michael will identify how negative thinking can be detrimental to your well-being and offer ways to turn these thoughts into a creative, productive force.

Tuesday April 6, 2010 - Author Dacher Keltner and Filmmaker Jerry Zucker
Author Dacher Keltner
Are humans wired for compassion, as they seem to be for greed and self-interest? We’re going to discuss that with Dacher Keltner.
Dacher Keltner, Ph.D, is faculty director and founder of GGSC, Greater Good Science Center, at University of California at Berkeley, where he is also a professor of psychology and the executive editor of Greater Good magazine, published by GGSC. A leading expert in social intelligence and a prolific author, Dr. Keltner has received numerous national prizes and grants. He studies the nature of human goodness, including compassion, awe, laughter, beauty, and love, as well as the effects of power, hierarchy, social class, psychopathology, and moral intuitions. Dr. Keltner is author of two books,
Professor Keltner received his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his Ph.D. from Stanford University, and he completed three years of post-doctoral work with Paul Ekman at the University of California, San Francisco. He is the author of more than 80 scholarly articles and two books, Born To Be Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life; and Compassionate Instinct: The Science of Human Goodness. Both books are published by W.W. Norton & Company.
Dr. Keltner has presented his research to His Holiness the Dalai Lama as part of continuing dialogue between the Dalai Lama and scientists. An outstanding, compassionate speaker, he has won two University-wide awards for distinguished teaching, and Wired magazine named a podcast from his course on human emotion one of the five best in the country. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Time magazine, on CNN, and on KQED's "Forum with Michael Krasny," among other media outlets.
Milwaukee-born filmmaker Jerry Zucker attended Shorewood High School with his older brother, David. It was there, in student variety shows, that the Zuckers began displaying the lampoonish Mad Magazine-style humor that would distinguish their later work. While attending the University of Wisconsin in Madison, the Zuckers' longtime family friend Jim Abrahams founded the Kentucky Fried Theater comedy troupe, which by 1978 had gained enough industry prestige to bankroll the zany sketch film Kentucky Fried Movie (1978), directed by John Landis. The film set the future Zucker standard: wild parodies of movie genres played out by an utterly straight-faced cast, looney non-sequitur jokes and running gags filling each frame, hilarious celebrity cameos, and outrageous (and endearingly childish) visual puns.
On the strength of Kentucky Fried Movie's 20-million-dollar take, the Zucker/Abrahams team put together their first mainstream feature for Paramount, 1980's Airplane!, a scattershot satire of the 1957 airline meller Zero Hour. The Zucker boys and Abrahams agreed to this project only on the provision that the three men be allowed to co-direct the film themselves, a triumvirate that held strong throughout the rest of the '80s. The Zucker/Abrahams style would always be hit and miss, but adherents preferred to cherish those hits. The success of Airplane! enabled Zucker/Abrahams to produce a limited 1982 summer replacement series, Police Squad, starring Airplane! cast member Leslie Nielsen as diligent but supremely incompetent police lieutenant Frank Dreben (the casting of heretofore "serious" actors like Nielsen, Lloyd Bridges, and Robert Stack as pompous buffoons was another Zucker/Abrahams trademark). Fans of Police Squad consider the series the best ever, but the ABC network was nervous with the project, complaining that it didn't have a laughtrack to let the audience know what was funny and that the joke-a-minute style required the audience to actually have an attention span.
Zucker/Abrahams' next project, Top Secret (1984), though a box-office disappointment, hilariously maintained the Airplane/Police Squad trend of "inside" jokes referring to the writer/directors' hometown of Milwaukee. (The East German national anthem was sung to the tune of the anthem for Shorewood High School). The Zucker/Abrahams team was back on target with its Naked Gun and Hot Shots theatrical films, though there was a marked attrition rate in the inevitable sequels.
In 1990, Zucker astounded his fans (and non-fans) with his sensitive solo direction of Ghost, a romantic fantasy that became one of the top-grossing films of the year and won an Oscar for supporting actress Whoopi Goldberg.
Jerry Zucker has since fluctuated between his satirical films and more serious works like First Knight with Sean Connery, and A Walk In The Clouds with Keanu Reeves.

Tuesday March 23, 2010 - Transformational Business Leadership Consultant Dr. Cleve Stevens and British-born David Gibbons, host of "In Discussion" on VoiceAmerica
Mike's guests on today's edition of The Enrichment Hour are: in the first half hour - Transformational Business Leadership Consultant Dr. Cleve Stevens; and in the second half hour - British-born David Gibbons, host of "In Discussion" on VoiceAmerica, an in-depth exploration of the lives and thinking of leading-edge opinion leaders from around the world.
Dr. Cleve Stevens, Ph.D, is a renowned authority on the psychology of leadership and the technology of leadership and organizational transformation. He has served as an advisor and leadership development consultant to top business leaders and fortune 500 companies in North America, Europe and Asia. Dr. Stevens has taught leadership and business leadership at the University of Southern California, Beijing University (China) and North Eastern University (China).
Cleve is founder of Owl Sight Intentions Inc. (www.owlsightintentions.com), a business leadership consulting firm. OSI is focused on creating awakened, genuinely empowered leaders who see each of their employees as ends in themselves, and not as a mere means to an end. His work is to shift the paradigm within organizations from transactional leadership (provide a paycheck in return for performance) to transformational leadership (encouraging the total human development of each person within the organization) where extraordinary results emerging from the creative, human and professional development of each person is the goal rather than profits (but where increased productivity and profits becomes the natural outcome).
Cleve holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Irvine, a Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in Social Ethics and Leadership Development from the University of Southern California.
British-born David Gibbons is host of the radio show In Discussion on VoiceAmerica (see: www.davidgibbons.org), in-depth interviews with leading-edge opinion leaders from all fields and walks of life. David's show is broadcast through frank, positive and life-changing exchange, designed with the sole purpose of leading to a re-birth of our world community. Says Hollywood Cinematographer George Mooradian about David's show: "Bold, enlightened, avant-garde, even radically green. A great interviewer is a national treasure for the human odyssey."
Beginning on March 31st, and at the end of every month thereafter, David will air New Letters from America following in the footsteps of Alistair Cooke's journey across the United States, between the post-war years to his passing in 2004. His original Letters from America began in 1946 and were enormously successful for the BBC. The series finally came to an end 58 years (2,869 installments) later, in March 2004. Cooke was 95 years old and reluctantly retired on advice from doctors. He died shortly after having left a legacy of American history during a period of change and volatility. As a boy and into adulthood Gibbons was enchanted by the regular Sunday morning radio program broadcast on BBC's Radio Four. His father rarely missed the programs that he had followed himself from their inception in 1946. The New Letters from America will continuing from where Cooke left off with attentive and passionate commentary on the economic, social and political status of the country today.
David will also launch The Years - "Charting the years of our lives among the generation of all generations." Says David Gibbons: "Never before in social history has the world ever seen such a convergence of profound information supplied from people around the world. A convergence driven to supply people's position in love, life and work - with an energy that will deliver inspiring findings. Findings that will chart the human heart in a global society moving through paradigm shifts in its fragility and security. Through the power of modern media tied with passionate information gathering gifts The Years is a movement sweeping off the feet those yearning for signs of commonality with people everywhere. The power of determination to create communal conscientiousness is about to empower all humankind with the facts from which we all need to find a way to survive as the generation of all generations."

Tuesday February 23, 2010 - Authors Homer Hickam and Dror Ashuah
Homer Hickam - For those of you who’ve seen the popular movie October Sky, you may remember it was the story of Homer Hickam, the son of a coalminer in Coalwood, West Virginia, who led a group of boys who built rockets. It was about the passion and dreams of youth, and in the case of the real-life Homer, of dreams fulfilled. October Sky was based on Homer Hickam’s autobiographical novel, Rocket Boys: A Memoir, which was a #1 New York Times Best Seller, and is studied in many American and international school systems.
Homer joined NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center in 1981 as an aerospace engineer. During his NASA career, he worked in spacecraft design and crew training. His specialties at NASA included training astronauts on science payloads, and extra-vehicular activities (EVA). He also trained astronaut crews for many Spacelab and Space Shuttle missions, including the Hubble Space Telescope deployment mission, the first two Hubble repair missions, Spacelab-J (the first Japanese astronauts), and the Solar Max repair mission. Prior to his retirement from federal service in 1998, Homer was the Payload Training Manager for the International Space Station Program.

Beyond his extraordinary career with NASA, Homer is very much a prolific writer. His first book was Torpedo Junction, a military history best-seller. After his second book, Rocket Boys, the publisher, Delacorte, subsequently released a mass market paperback of Rocket Boys, re-titled October Sky. October Sky reached the number one position on the New York Times Best Seller list.
Homer’s first fiction novel was Back to the Moon. It has also been translated into Chinese. The Coalwood Way, a memoir of Homer’s hometown, was published a year later. His third Coalwood memoir is titled Sky of Stone. His final book about Coalwood was published in 2002, a self help/inspirational tome titled We Are Not Afraid: Strength and Courage from the Town That Inspired the #1 Bestseller and Award-Winning Movie October Sky.
Dror Ashuah - “It is the grandest time in your history as humans on this planet and nothing you know will stay the same.” With words such as these, “Conversation with Angels: And So Be It” (Volume I and II) by Dror B. Ashuah contain the transmission of inspirational and sometimes “mind-blowing” messages from the angelic dimension, in preparation for an unprecedented time of global change and transition.Dror Ashuah, a former Israeli soldier who participated in battle, a traumatic experience that began an internal transformation, traveled a journey which ultimately led to a profound encounter with energies from a higher frequency; a group of beings who declare their connection with us and their love for us.
“The angels tell us that earth is going through a monumental shift,” he writes. “Our collective consciousness is going through a vibrational shift as if we were attuned to one radio station and the dial were turning to another. Much of what we assume to be true today is about to change. All of us are about to transform as well; and the angels ask us to get ready.” | Listen: |
Tuesday February 9, 2010 - Authors Thomas Walker and Rabbi Leah Novick
Thomas Walker, author of "The Force Is With Us: The Higher Consciousness That Science Refuses to Accept"
Inspired by encounters with his son beyond the grave, Tom Walker discovered not only that the paranormal has been exhaustively studied but that convincing evidence supports its authenticity - despite modern science's rigid bias against it. He defines the force, which world esoteric traditions call prana or chi and Wilhelm Reich called orgone, as an energy field that gives movement and life to everything.

An enthralling narrator, Walker cites numerous studies and proven data from government scientists on telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition and psychokinesis - all of which make sense in light of the force. He concludes in line with theoretical physics that consciousness is the primary reality, offering persuasive evidence that what we experience in physical life is, in his words, "only a prelude to eternity."
Rabbi Leah Novick, author of "On The Wings Of Shekhinah: Rediscovering Judaism's Divine Feminine"
On the Wings of Shekhinah takes readers on a guided walk through Jewish history and scripture, revealing along the way the feminine face of God, Shekhinah, a mystical figure that can be found in many traditional world religions but one who, until now, has merely been alluded to by the sages and patriarchal societies.

Rabbi Novick draws from the elements of the natural world, starting with the Torah and the many legends that emphasize the presence of the Shekhinah. She then discusses the Talmud and the ethical nature of the human relationship with the Divine Presence, who appears in the context of positive human activities such as study, prayer and charity.
