The Enrichment Hour with Mike Schwager

"Enrich Your Life...Enrich Our World"

Welcome to The Enrichment Hour with host Mike Schwager. Mike Schwager, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Enrichment.com, and his blog, www.EnrichOurWorld.net invites you to join him as he interviews celebrities, authors and opinion leaders on subjects that include spirituality; human potential and motivation; humanitarian news; animal advocacy; inspiration; science with a new paradigm perspective; culture and the arts; dialogue between religions, cultures, genders and ethnicities; and the movies. The hour will be divided between guest interviews, news and commentaries.  The underlying premise and philosophy of “The Enrichment Hour” is Reverence-for-Life – all Life.

Life is sacred.  The ground of Reality is Consciousness.   That is the realization emerging as we move forward on our Journey.  As Rainer Maria Rilke said, “The future enters into us, in order to transform itself in us, long before it happens.”  Our prayer is that the future of a world where humankind honors and reveres all Life is the future entering into us now.  Reverence for Life includes an honoring of Life’s purpose, which has to do with first, appreciating the sanctity of pure Beingness of all life forms; and second, seeing creativity, freedom and fulfillment as each individual’s birthright, where each person lives life as the unique individualized creative expression that he or she “is” in the world.  Each person represents the impulse of Evolution-as-Spirit to grow and manifest in unique, creative and loving ways.  “The Enrichment Hour” hopes to reflect this outlook in all our shows. Listeners are encouraged to call-in.

Upcoming Shows

Sun. Jul. 20, 2014, 10am PT, 1pm ET: Thomas Moore - A Religion of One's Own: A Guide to Creating a Personal Spirituality in a Secular World

a-religion-of-ones-own-thomas-mooreJoin Mike Schwager and Thomas Moore, spiritual advisor and bestselling author of books like" Care of the Soul" and "Dark Nights of the Soul" as they discuss Moore's latest book.

Something essential is missing from modern life. Many who’ve turned away from religious institutions—and others who have lived wholly without religion—hunger for more than what contemporary secular life has to offer but are reluctant to follow organized religion’s strict and often inflexible path to spirituality. In "A Religion of One’s Own", bestselling author and former monk Thomas Moore explores the myriad possibilities of creating a personal spiritual style, either inside or outside formal religion.

Two decades ago, Moore’s "Care of the Soul" touched a chord with millions of readers yearning to integrate spirituality into their everyday lives. In "A Religion of One’s Own", Moore expands on the topics he first explored shortly after leaving the monastery. He recounts the benefits of contemplative living that he learned during his twelve years as a monk but also the more original and imaginative spirituality that he later developed and embraced in his secular life. Here, he shares stories of others who are creating their own path: a former football player now on a spiritual quest with the Pueblo Indians, a friend who makes a meditative practice of floral arrangements, and a well-known classical pianist whose audiences sometimes describe having a mystical experience while listening to her performances. Moore weaves their experiences with the wisdom of philosophers, writers, and artists who have rejected materialism and infused their secular lives with transcendence.

At a time when so many feel disillusioned with or detached from organized religion yet long for a way to move beyond an exclusively materialistic, rational lifestyle, "A Religion of One’s Own points the way to creating an amplified inner life and a world of greater purpose, meaning, and reflection.

Sun. Jul. 13, 2014, 10-11am PT, 1-2pm ET: Homeopathy and a Taste of Health; Helping Youth Communicate Effectively and Find Their Voice

My guests on THE ENRICHMENT HOUR for Sunday, July 13th are, in the first half hour, renowned homeopathist SANFORD LAPEDIS; and in the second half hour, a dear friend, HENRY KAVETT, presently a college advisor helping young people fulfill their dreams – and in the past, someone with a distinguished career in radio and television. The Enrichment Hour airs every Sunday, from 1-2 PM Eastern, 10-11 AM Pacific, 11-12 PM Mountain, and 12 – 1 PM Central. Listen live on www.WSRadio (dot) com, click on STUDIO B/Live.

Sanford Lapedis became dedicated to homeopathy after he himself was cured at the age of 22 by a homeopathic practitioner. He received his MDHS from the International Academy of Homeopathic Science, and holds a degree in Naturopathy, and is a license Naturopath with the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists.

He specializes in classical constitutional homeopathy and founded the Homeopathy Solutions Clinic, and is committed to implementing his skills and experience to help his patients lead healthier, happier and more productive lives.

Sanford Lapedis has treated conditions that have been diagnosed as incurable, or life-long conditions, such as heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, fatigue, autism and ADHD, etc. He was part of a team of Naturopathic practitioners at the prestigious Integral Health Clinic in downtown Ottawa. He has taught and trained students of homeopathy at the Academy of Health Sciences & the Canadian Institute of Homeopathy in Ottawa.

Sanford has written a variety of articles on homeopathy and health, and has been a lecturer, guest speaker and attendee at a variety of international forums and venues. Most recently, in 2009 and 2010, he presented on "A Taste of Health" cruise along with various distinguished speakers, such as Dr. Neal Barnard (founder & president of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine), Dr. T. Colin Campbell (researcher & author of the China Study), Dr. Will Tuttle (composer, speaker & author – The World Peace Diet), and Christina Pirello (Emmy award-winning host of Christina Cooks), to name a few.

He was the director of the department of homeopathy at the charity AMI hospital in India for 13 years, and has successfully treated patients from all over the world, with all types of acute and chronic disorders.

Of his mission, Sanford Lapedis says: "In order to uplift society and the general well-being of humankind, the focus of our efforts must begin with the physical and mental health of each individual."

Sanford's website is at: www.homeopathysolutions.com. He is based in West Palm Beach, Florida.

My guest in the second half hour is HENRY KAVETT.

After many years in the communications industry, Henry Kavett found his passion: helping young people find their direction and voice. He has been an independent college advisor for about 20 years—and now exclusively devotes his time in service to others. This year, 30 of his students will graduate from the world's leading universities, including MIT, Harvard, Cornell, UPenn and Yale.

It turned out that the same kind of preparation in aiding top executives in communicating their objectives is used in developing winning college essays and applications. So at this point in his life, Kavett has what most strive for: a clear sense of purpose and the opportunity to see the fruits of his labors as his students gain admission and then achieve their goals.

Previously...Henry was involved with WYD Media Management in New York, assisting in generating new revenue streams for shows like THE STPEHANIE MILLER SHOW and DAVID HARTMANN SHOW. Prior to that, he was a Senior Consultant to major communications corporations, including entertainment companies and technology networks.

And before that, Henry has a distinguished communications background that includes: Senior Vice President of Utilicore, the telephone and communications services group; President and founder of The Independent Group of Companies, Inc. (IGC), which created strategic marketing, advertising and public relations programs for clients like GE Capital, Group W Television, John Blair & Company, Showtime/Viacom Networks, NBC-TV, NBC Olympics and CNBC cable network and Weichert Realtors.

Henry and I met when we were both Broadcast Media Specialists at the large public relations agency, Burson-Marsteller, in New York.

Henry was also: Broadcast news editor & writer for DOW JONES/Wall Street Journal Radio Networks; Director, Information & Public Relations, ABC Radio Division (ABC Radio Networks, ABC Owned Stations Group, ABC Radio News); Network News Writer/Producer for NBC News/NBC Radio Networks/NIS, New York; and News anchor/reporter at radio and television stations – such as WBBF (Top40), WBFB/WNWZ (all news format, anchored evenings and weekends, WROC (operations manager, produced AM & PM news blocks, one hour nightly call in talk show on NewsTalk station), Rochester, NY; WUTR-TV, Utica, NY; WTKO, Ithaca, WHLW radio, Lakewood, NJ, WBNG-TV, Binghamton, NY; and news stringer, Associated Press.

Anita is also a regular commentator on the top-rated Jerry Doyle Show, nationally syndicated to an audience of 8 million listeners per week; and America’s Radio News Network, and she’s a contributor to Epic Times. She is also a very prolific and popular blogger. Anita's website: AnitaFinlay.com .

From 1999 through 2003, while living in Israel/Palestine during the Second Intifada, Berkley pioneered a variety of peace-building education and training programs. As the Founding Director of “Joy of Life,” she developed a groundbreaking series of original programs for the development of self-awareness and personal empowerment in the midst of conflict. This experience still informs her work today.

Sun. Apr. 13, 2014, 10am PT, 1pm ET: Documentary Film Producer James LaVeck

tribe of heartOur special one-hour guest is award-winning documentary film producer James LaVeck of Tribe of Heart Productions (www.tribeofheart.org).

James's mission in his films is to awaken compassion and deepen each individual's understanding of the interconnectedness of all life. His vision, and the vision of his significant other, Jenny Stein, is to help build a world free of violence and full of beauty.

Tribe of Heart is also a charitable organization that empowers caring people everywhere to become agents of peaceful social change. Its members consist of a global community of people from all walks of life, dedicated to living with kindness and respect for all living beings.

One of the hugely impactful documentary films produced and directed by James are "Peaceable Kingdom: The Journey Home." With strikingly honest interviews and rare footage demonstrating the emotional lives and intense family bonds of animals most often viewed as living commodities, this groundbreaking documentary shatters stereotypical notions of farmers, farm life, and perhaps most surprisingly, farm animals themselves.

Another award-winning documentary film, The Witness, tells the story of a construction contractor from a tough Brooklyn neighborhood become an impassioned animal advocate. Eddie Lama explains how he feared and avoided animals for most of his life, until the love of a kitten opened his heart, inspiring him to rescue abandoned animals and bring his message of compassion to the streets of New York. With humor and sincerity, Eddie tells the story of his remarkable change in consciousness.

The Witness has been an official selection in 32 film festivals where it has received eight awards for Best Documentary and two for Best of Festival.

My guest in the second half hour of "The Enrichment Hour" (1:30 to 2 PM Eastern, 10:30 to 11 AM Pacific) is Father Frank Mann, a Roman Catholic priest from Queens, New York. He has served as a parish priest and as the Catholic chaplain at Brooklyn College, and is presently a feature writer for The Tablet, a major Catholic newspaper in New York. Father Mann also works for DeSales Media, for which he creates and organizes educational forums on topics ranging from human rights issues to spiritually influential individuals. He is the recipient of a 2010 Catholic Press Award for his article on the significance of pet therapy in hospitals and nursing homes.

Father Mann had a major internal transformation in his view of animals, including farm animals, while driving on the Long Island Expressway and spotting a billboard, which had been created by Mercy for Animals. It was a picture of a dog, a little puppy, and a piglet, and it said, "Why love one, but eat the other?" The impact of this billboard sign was huge for Father Mann. He had to turn off the expressway to reach a service road, where he turned off the ignition and contemplated the meaning of the sign. As he sat in his car, he felt completely emotionally overwhelmed by what he had seen, and cried. It was shortly after this, and after research on the intelligence and kindness of pigs, and how they were severely treated and slaughtered, as nothing more than meat for the table, that he became a vegan and a powerful advocate of compassion for animals - all animals - as the expression of God's love for His Creation.

Father Mann stands out as a voice too often missing in the official utterances of the Church, or most other religious institutions. But he points to the compassion of great Church figures like Saint Francis of Assissi as role models that need great emphasis. Father is featured in a You-Tube produced by www.TribeofHeart.org: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ekOPyXGs3Q

The priest is also, on a personal level, trying to keep his beloved cat Newman alive. Newman, who was the first animal to open the Father's heart about the preciousness of animal life, has chronic medical problems and needs regular veterinary care. Father has a webpage where donations can be made to meet his beloved Newman's medical expenses: www.GoFundMe.com/7kvers. Your help will be so very much appreciated! Priests are on a vow of poverty and consequently this makes keeping Newman regularly treated, so very challenging. Thank you for considering a donation to the Father and to his beloved Newman!

souls-are-realWilliam Pillow, author of "Souls Are Real! Death Is Not!"

Three recent revelations from science and medicine promise to add new meaning for our lives. These involve how we look at life and death. One is the clinical conclusion that near-death experiences (NDEs) are actual-death experiences (ADEs)—these resuscitated survivors have truly died and their “Heavenly visit” is what we all can expect to experience when our bodies die.

Tuesday April 12, 2011 - Nathan Winograd, Animal Advocate and Jack Nadel, world-renowned entrepreneur

Nathan WinogradIt’s my pleasure to introduce Nathan Winograd, one of this country’s great animal advocates. Nathan is the Director of the national No Kill Advocacy Center (www.NathanWinograd.com). He is a graduate of Stanford Law School, a former criminal prosecutor and attorney, and he’s held a variety of leadership positions including director of operations for the San Francisco SPCA and executive director of the Tompkins County SPCA, two of the most successful shelters in the nation. He has spoken nationally and internationally on animal sheltering issues, has written animal protection legislation at the state and national level, has created successful No Kill programs in both urban and rural communities, and has consulted with a wide range of animal protection groups including some of the largest and best known in the nation. Nathan is the author of three books, Redemption: The Myth of Pet Overpopulation and the No-Kill Revolution in America; Irreconcilable Differences; and All American Vegan (co-written with his wife, Jennifer).Redemption won five national book awards and redefined the animal protection movement in the United States.

According to The No Kill Nation:   “ ‘In 2003, the Tompkins County SPCA saved 100% of all healthy, friendly dogs and cats, 100% of treatable sick and injured animals, and 100% of feral cats. Overall, 93% of dogs and cats were saved’… Credit for saving so many cat and dog lives rests squarely on the shoulders of Nathan Winograd.”

Reader’s Digest wrote: “Millions of healthy animals are [killed] in shelters every year. Nathan Winograd wants that reduced to zero… Winograd is helping to save thousands, even millions.”

And according to the magazine The Bark: “The world owes much to those rare individuals who see things differently – and who then devote themselves to vindicating their maverick conclusions.”

I see Nathan Winograd as a courageous individual, a leader with a cause, and that cause is not only reverence for life, but saving the lives of our truly best friends.

NOTE: See my March 14 Huffington Post article, entitled “Let’s Save Our Best Friends”. It provides a number of strategies for converting kill shelters to no-kill shelters. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-schwager/lets-save-our-best-friend_b_833818.html

Jack NadelJack Nadel, world-renowned entrepreneur, joins The Enrichment Hour for the second time, and as author of the new book, “Use What You Have To Get What You Want: 100 Basic Ideas That Mean Business."  Jack is on a mission - to help entrepreneurs and thereby bolster the American economy with recession-busting business ideas.

Jack Nadel is a world renowned entrepreneur and founder of Jack Nadel International ( www.nadel.com ) — today the gold standard of the promotional marketing business. He has founded, acquired and operated more than a dozen companies, and was the first in his industry to break the glass ceiling for women when he hired the first female salesperson in 1953, and over the years JNI has evolved to a worldwide company with over 50% female sales representation.

At a very sharp 87 years of age, there is no one alive today who can match Jack’s 65 years of successful entrepreneurial experience; and he’s become an “elder statesman” of business wisdom who can provide the insights and inspiration to entrepreneurs of all stripes.

Use What You HAVE - To Get What You Want"Use What You HAVE to Get What YOU WANT" consists of 100 of Jack’s most valuable and useful business lessons. It’s a “bottom line” book for busy people, with 100 one page chapters, and a different entrepreneurial “lesson” on each page. Here are three nuggets from his book:

• Three R’s for success – Relationships, Results and Rewards: In 1988, President Reagan asked me to join a Trade Mission to Japan to bolster the sale of American products in Japan. At a luncheon with Akio Morita, the President of SONY, the great industrialist told me, “You Americans come here to make a deal. We Japanese are interested in forming relationships that can be the building blocks of many deals.” More meetings ensued, along with closer relationships and new deals. Humanize and regularize the structure, and rewards follow!
• Don’t fall in love with your idea. Remember that the idea itself, no matter how much you love it, will evolve or fade upon practical adaptation. Our business was the manufacture and distribution of such promotional products as ballpoint pens and stationery. When we invested in a hobby company, we realized it wasn’t a match and didn’t love it. We sold our interest before getting in too far. Lesson: fall in love with people. Give your idea time to prove itself.

• Subcontracting is the cheapest form of manufacturing. If you don’t have a factory, now is not the time to build one. With research, often on your own search engine, you will discover that the ideal plant and equipment already exists for the manufacture of your product. That plant has already saved you the headaches and burdensome costs of labor, insurance and accidents. The same is true for services such as invoicing, fulfillment, warehousing and administrative. Be smart. Don’t build!

“Use What You Have…” has received rave reviews from Dr. Robert Emmons, professor emeritus at Marshall School of Business at The University of Southern California; Monty Hall, famed host of Let’s Make A Deal; and Pulitzer prize-winning presidential historian Doris Kearns Goodwin.

After discharge as a decorated combat veteran of WWII, Jack Nadel started his business career in a tiny office with no money, education or experience and over the following 65 successful years Jack has created thousands of new jobs and hundreds of products. His entrepreneurial creativity shone through on his first major business deal in international trade: with only a letter of credit, he purchased large amounts of olive drab woolen material from the war surplus, dyed the fabric blue, and sold them to the Chinese. A big hit!

In a world dominated by negative role models and “bad news,” he’s devoted to accentuating the positive in life. He hosted a popular television show on Santa Barbara’s ABC affiliate, “Out of the Box With Jack Nadel,” featuring interviews with top celebrities. Jack is a business leader known for his sage advice, offering it to everyone from the veteran businessperson to those hoping to make their way in the rough-and-tumble real life corporate world.

Concerning this latest book, he’s made a website available for the wider public at: www.ideasthatmeanbusiness.com  In addition to this new book, Jack has written three other business books – “Cracking the Global Market,” “There’s No Business Like Your Business” and “How To Succeed In Business Without Lying, Cheating or Stealing” – and a novel based on personal experience, “My Enemy, My Friend.”

Tuesday March 22, 2011 - John Robbins and Randy Rogers

John RobbinsABOUT JOHN ROBBINS

It’s my great pleasure to introduce John Robbins to The Enrichment Hour. I first met John 20 years ago, when he and his wife joined me for dinner at a vegetarian restaurant in Soho, not far from my then- home.   My most vivid recollection of him were his eyes – big clear translucent eyes. If the eyes are indeed the windows of the soul, then John’s very old soul is big and clear in vision, and filled with Heart.

John Robbins is currently one of the most popular bloggers on the Huffington Post. He is also the author of six bestsellers that have collectively sold more than 3 million copies and been translated into 26 languages. His books include The Food Revolution, and the classic Diet For A New America.

The only son of the founder of the Baskin-Robbins ice cream empire, John Robbins was groomed to follow in his father’s footsteps, but chose to walk away from Baskin-Robbins and the immense wealth it represented to "pursue the deeper American Dream...the dream of a society at peace with its conscience because it respects and lives in harmony with all life forms."

As an advocate for a compassionate and healthy way of life, John is the recipient of the Rachel Carson Award, the Albert Schweitzer Humanitarian Award, the Peace Abbey’s Courage of Conscience Award, and the Green America’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

His work has been the subject of feature articles in The San Francisco Chronicle, The Los Angeles Times, Chicago Life, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Time, US News & World Report, Newsweek, and many of the nation's other major newspapers and magazines. His life and work have also been featured in an award-winning hour long PBS special titled Diet For A New America.

John has been a keynote speaker at major conferences sponsored by Physicians for Social Responsibility, Beyond War, Oxfam, the Sierra Club, the Humane Society of the United States, the United Nations Environmental Program, UNICEF, and many other organizations dedicated to the creation of an environmentally sustainable, socially just, and spiritually fulfilling human presence on this planet.

Randy RogersABOUT RANDY ROGERS

Hollywood producer Randy Rogers has written a new book, The Key of Life: A Metaphysical Investigation.  Randy is the president of Telefilm, Inc., a Los Angeles-based production company handling the promotion of Hollywood blockbuers like The Matrix, Harry Potter, Pearl Harbor, Batman, Superman and Indiana Jons.  A career spanning four decades in newspapers, television and motion pictures - working with such companies as NBC News, Disney, Warner Brothers, Paramount, Universal Pictures, MGM, Lionsgate, SONY and DreamWorks - has earned him several Emmy nominations and numerous press club awards.  Randy resides in Los Angeles, California with Michele Kohse and their son Kyle.

The Key Of LifeRandy's book is described as "a gripping, true story about who we are, why we are here and how we are all connected. And the very essence of that bond of humanity is meticulously documented as you follow the author’s quest, first for the truth and then the proof, towards an ending that is lovingly revealed to be merely the beginning."

"In everyone’s life, there comes a time to question their reason for existence. For Randy Rogers, that journey began on a cool, clear, June day in 1995, soon after his move into a new home, when a feeling swept over him that an old friend from grade school had just passed away. He had not seen Kathy Lynch for more than twenty years, but now he couldn’t get her, or the feeling that she was dead, out of his mind. His former background in journalism compelled him into an intense search to discover what became of Kathy. His investigation quickly turned into an obsession driven by dreams and a pattern of synchronistic events. Along this journey, he found himself, Kathy, and a mysterious author named L.W. Rogers all linked together in the past. Randy’s search melds the pieces of a much-larger puzzle, revealing a life-altering reality of past lives, present circumstances and reincarnation as the so-called “mysteries of life” began to unfold."

According to Kim, the universe is designed to make our possibilities become realities, and her book offers the scientific data to support that claim, with the simple tools for putting that knowledge into action. More practical than many books and backed up with research from peer-reviewed scientific journals, Romaner demonstrates that focused attention can bring our dreams to life and reshape our lives.

Her own life is her best example: Two weeks after separating from her husband of eight years, she had a head-on collision with an 18-wheeler. Among the broken things were her neck, her sternum, her marriage, her social life, and her ability to work. At the time, she was self-employed and a newly single parent of a three-year-old boy. She came to realize that there is a whole universe of possibility out there for the taking, if only we could figure out how to access it on a consistent basis, and bring it to life.

Thus began a journey that culminated in Kim’s discovery that her possibilities could be amplified. Today, 14 years later, Kim is a millionaire and living that amped up life of her dreams, driving NASCAR stock cars, firewalking, ballooning, and falling in love.

The Science Of Making Things HappenIn Part I of the book, Kim explains five secrets of leading-edge science and their implications for creating the ideal life.

In Part II, Kim demonstrates how readers can apply the five secrets as a system in different areas of our lives. Individual chapters guide readers intentionally and scientifically to improve their finances, careers, love lives and other relationships, health and appearance, and community involvement.

Kim Marcille Romaner is founder and Chief Amplifier of Possibilities Amplified, Inc., and an expert on both the science of amplifying possibility into reality and the practical applications for both people and businesses.  A popular speaker and sought after consultant, Kim addresses corporations, associations and other organizations on the power of possibility.  Her 25 years in business leadership ranges from small business ownership to Fortune 500 executive experience.  Her website is www.PossibilitiesAmplified.com.

Tuesday September 21, 2010 Two Interviews

My first interview is with Marc Allen, a renowned publisher, author, composer, and speaker.

My second interview is with Michael Klepper, a renowned public relations and communications wizard and innovator

Marc AllenMy first guest is Marc Allen, a renowned publisher, author, composer, and speaker. On the day he turned thirty, Marc co-founded New World Library with Shakti Gawain, and as the company's president and publisher, he has guided it from a small start-up operation with no capital to become one of the leading publishers in the spiritual/human potential field.

Marc has written numerous books, including his upcoming book, The Greatest Secret of All, Visionary Business, The Millionaire Course, and The Type-Z Guide to Success. He has also recorded several albums of music, including Awakening, Breathe, and Solo Flight.  He is a popular speaker and seminar leader based in the San Francisco Bay Area.  For more about Marc, including his free monthly teleseminars, see www.MarcAllen.com. For more about his music (including free samples), see www.WatercourseMedia.com.

In his upcoming book, The Greatest Secret of All, Marc writes about The Law of Attraction (how to use the mental and physical abilities we were born with to create wealth and success) but also says that while it's  wonderful to know, many who have discovered this “secret” still lead miserable lives. The Greatest Secret of All clearly explains this law of manifestation but then takes it a quantum leap further, revealing what is truly important in life.

VISIONARY BUSINESS: An Entrepreneur's Guide to Success, is a powerful book presenting the 12 keys of business success and the 25 principles and practices of visionary business

Michael KlepperMy second guest is Michael Klepper, a renowned public relations and communications wizard and innovator, who once headed the Radio & Television and Media Training Departments of Burson-Marsteller, departments he also launched for that agency, one of the world’s largest.  Harold Burson thanked Mike “for taking my agency into the electronic age.” Prior to joining Burson, Mike was a writer, producer and director for NBC News for seven years.  And following his years at Burson, Mike founded his own agency, which became a respected media relations shop in its own right, Michael Klepper Associates in New York.  Mike is also a former member of The Director’s Guild, and was Associate Producer of The Jerry Lewis Telethon the first two years it went national.

Mike Klepper is the author of two successful “how-to” books:  I’d Rather Die Than Give A Speech, with an introduction by renowned broadcast journalist Edwin Newman; and Getting Your Message Out:  How To Get, Use & Survive Radio & Television Airtime.

The Wealthy 100: From Benjamin Franklin to Bill GatesMike also authored a highly acclaimed book, The Wealthy 100:  From Benjamin Franklin to Bill Gates – A Ranking of the Richest Americans, Past and Present.

In his spare time, Mike Klepper writes musicals, and perhaps one day we’ll see one of his musicals on Broadway.

Michael Klepper was my mentor in public relations.  I regarded him then, and now, as a genius in communications – in publicity and media relations; and as an extraordinary television interview trainer and speech trainer – perhaps the best there ever was or who will ever be.  He could see the essence of a story – and had the gift to crystallize it and communicate it more effectively than anyone I’ve ever known.  That same gift was given to those he prepared for television appearances; and those who benefited from Mike’s training became great on-air guests.

The truth of the man is that he is also an artist at heart – and he applied his artistry to his work in a way that made a lasting impression on me – and so many others who were his colleagues and his clients.

Tuesday August 31, 2010 Two Interviews

My first interview is with Judy Winkler, author of "Get Unstuck - Live with Ease"

My second interview is with renowned Acting Teacher and Coach Anthony Abeson

Judy WinklerMy first interview is with Judy Winkler, author of “Get Unstuck – Live with Ease” (Sacred Life Publishers). I like this book because of its simplicity, and the book is filled with simple yet powerful affirmations that can get you on the road to healing.  It’s a potential liberator for those who feel stuck in their lives.  My sense of Judy is that she is a natural-born teacher and healer.  For decades, she felt unlovable.  She experienced abuse, neglect, fear, and self-doubt.  As she faced inner dragons and demons (old memories and feelings), she learned how to move through obstacles.

If you are stressed, confused, worried, resentful, feeling limited or unlovable…if anyone or anything kept you from being your true self…if you want to feel empowered, loved, have peace of mind and live your best life, then this interview, and applying the steps in this book, may help you.

Get Unstuck includes 5-minute simple steps to change your life. You will learn to shift your focus so your circumstances change.  As Judy Winkler would put it, your focus sets into motion a change that is both waiting to emerge and draws to you that which you desire.  There are more than 75 topics within this book, which can generate inner peace, self-expression, and empowerment.

The techniques in this book are a compilation of the techniques that Judy Winkler used to live with ease and now uses with her clients.  Judy, based in San Diego, is a respected teacher, public speaker, counselor, and coach with more than 25 years experience.  For more information, visit www.coachjudywinkler.com.

AnthonyAbesonMy second guest is the great Anthony Abeson, considered by many the greatest living teacher of acting of his generation.  Anthony is one of the few remaining living masters of the craft of acting who studied with all the greats - Lee Strasberg, Harold Clurman, Jerzy Grotowski, Peter Brook and Stella Adler.   He says that too many actors have become corrupted by an over-emphasis on look, sex and figure  - too much attention to the external - and not enough attention to their depth, range and natural essence.

He wrote in an important commentary for The Washington Post, that "the actor’s calling is under assault from a culture which elevates baring the flesh over baring the soul, displaying the self over revealing the truth, type over talent, technology over heart:  a culture increasingly coarse and inimical to the American actor."

As teacher and coach to the likes of Jennifer Aniston, Esai Morales and Ian Somerhalder, Mr. Abeson believes that in the casting of actors today, there is “a succumbing to the dominance of type over talent that damages and perverts our craft.  This is the historical moment and culture we find ourselves in where there is much attention to the external and little to the soul.  It is tempting to cave in to the notion ‘if you can’t beat ‘em’…but Thoreau was right – just because the arrow will fall to Earth, we should still shoot it as high as we can.”

Many students have acknowledged Anthony Abeson for helping them find the truth inside themselves.  Jennifer Aniston, who studied with Mr. Abeson and was influenced by him early in her career, said of her teacher:  “For any actor to just have a moment with Anthony or a class with him, or by luck, have his words to read and reread, one will be twice or three times the actor for it."

Mr. Abeson, who is currently completing his forthcoming book, “’Must Be Strong Actress…and Look Great in Lingerie’ (Restoring the Ancient Potencies of Acting),” says that “the consequences of succumbing to the dominance of type over talent…are already, alarmingly, upon us.”

When he looks at celebrities like Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, Anthony Abeson sees talents which are being used but not developed.  Focusing on the development of their talent “can function like a gyroscope even in the midst of the craziness that American success engenders."  That success, he says, "often derives from and insists on the repetition of only a tiny element of appearance or personality that captured the public in the first place and which takes a toll."

For the last twenty years, Anthony Abeson has been an acting teacher and acting coach in New York City.  His work has been documented in the Emmy award-winning episode of the Bill Moyers PBS series "Creativity," the Ace award-winning Manhattan Cable Television documentary "Chasing Dreams" and the BBC's documentary "Bus and Truck."  Many of his acting students have gone on to LA and successful careers in film and television.

To sum up the ultimate purpose of the actor, Mr. Abeson says:  "Our jobs as actors, from forever, has been to render our audiences more human by virtue of our own humanity.  Actors are in actuality runways for the human spirit!"

Anthony Abeson’s website is at “AnthonyAbeson.com”.  He teaches in Manhattan, and lives in Milford, Pennsylvania with his wife Sherry and daughters Casey and Shay.  He can be reached at:  AAbeson@ptd.net

- BONNIE JONES REYNOLDS – Author, The Magdalen…and Humane Animal  Advocate/Caretaker

- MARYAM KABEER FAYE, JEWISH-BORN CONVERT TO SUFI/ISLAM, AUTHOR, "JOURNEY THROUGH TEN THOUSAND VEILS"

Bonnie Jones ReynoldsBONNIE JONES REYNOLDS – Author, The Magdalen…and Humane Animal  Advocate/Caretaker
In the first half hour, my guest is Bonnie Jones Reynolds, Co-Founder of Spring Farm CARES, a humane animal sanctuary; and author of the new book The Magdalen.

Spring Farm CARES is located in Clinton, NY and is home to about 250-300 animals, including 32 horses and ponies, 3 donkeys, goats, sheep, ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, rabbits, and a couple of exotic birds. The dogs and cats live in rooms furnished like living rooms, enjoying as much of a "home" atmosphere as possible. Animals not adopted are guaranteed a home here for life.

Spring Farm CARES is not just a physical place. It is a philosophy and a way of life. It conducts its programs and philosophies aimed at the human heart, its whole approach meant to directly touch people’s hearts, open those hearts to the world – and then see the change.

The MagdalenBonnie Jones Reynolds is also the author of The Magdalen, which raises a new and different picture of Jesus.  Who was he really and what was his message?
Driven by hundreds of inconsistencies regarding Jesus in the Bible, and by a bewildering array of non-sensical religious doctrines, Reynolds embarked on decades of both scholarly and spiritual study, searching for the Truth regarding Jesus.

“Most of what I came to believe to be the Truth of the matter is so startling,” says Reynolds, “that I chose to present it in a novel. For I agree wholeheartedly with Francis Bacon, who said, ‘Truth is so hard to tell, it sometimes needs fiction to make it plausible.’”

Maryam Kaber FayeMARYAM KABEER FAYE, JEWISH-BORN CONVERT TO SUFI/ISLAM, AUTHOR, "JOURNEY THROUGH TEN THOUSAND VEILS"

In the second half hour, I interview Maryam Kabeer Faye, author of the award-winning book, "Journey Through Ten Thousand Veils: the Alchemy of Transformation on the Sufi Path."

For many people, the word 'Islam' conjures up images of violence, suicide bombings and holy war. But not for Maryam Kabeer Faye, a Jewish-born American. She believes the religion she adopted after a long spiritual journey represents peace, love and mercy.

As far back as she can remember, Maryam Kabeer Faye yearned for spiritual fulfillment.

She was born in 1946 to a liberal Jewish family in Hollywood, California. While her parents were kind and loving, they were not religious, which left Kabeer Faye with a spiritual void.

At the age of 12, she was given a painted scroll of an ancient man with the words, "Seek and the truth shall make you free." That message resonated with her as she grew up in the tumultuous political climate of the 1960s.

Journey through Ten Thousand Veils:the Alchemy of Transformation on the Sufi PathMaryam Kabeer Faye describes her conversion to Sufi Islam in her book, "Journey through Ten Thousand Veils:the Alchemy of Transformation on the Sufi Path."

"It's kind of the interior illumination of the practices of Islam, which bring out the best in it. That is the love, the mercy, the kindness, wisdom, light," says Kabeer Faye. "And so that was the destiny that was marked for me, that was decreed for me."

Guests:

Seymour B. Ginsburg author of The Masters Speak: An American Businessman Encounters Ashish and Gurdjieff

and

Michael Neill internationally renowned success coach and the best-selling author of You Can Have What You Want, Feel Happy Now! and the Effortless Success audio program.

The Masters SpeakThe Masters Speak: An American Businessman Encounters Ashish and Gurdjieff is the detailed account of Seymour Ginsburg’s remarkable quest for life’s deeper meaning.  As co-founder of mega-retail giant Toys”R”Us, Seymour, better known as Sy, knew worldly success, and the shrewd ambition it takes to get there.  But with the tragic, untimely death of his young wife, Sy was suddenly left to raise a grieving family alone. For the first time, he found no comfort in his prosperity.

Like so many “seekers,” Sy was wary and anxious for direct spiritual experience. Armed with a mission to prove higher consciousness, Sy travels the world over to study, firsthand, the “spiritual greats” of his time. The Masters Speak recounts Sy’s curious meetings with enigmatic, controversial public figures such as Sathya Sai Baba, Jiddu Krishnamurti, and Madame de Salzman. This book also chronicles Sy’s extensive experience with Gurdjieff’s famous “work.”

In his search for the ultimate truth, Sy meets a monk who would quickly become his most endearing teacher and friend, Sri Madhava Ashish.  Sy and Ashish’s decades-long correspondence lays the intimate foundation for this book. Sy’s raw honesty, doubts, criticisms, and even occasional hostility, makes for a spiritual discussion that the western seeker can truly relate to.  Ashish, a Scottish engineer turned Hindu master, responds with wisdom that is both sober and incredibly non-dogmatic. With beautiful intricacy, The Masters Speak conveys Ashish’s steadfast declaration of an intrinsic unity of all being, a “Unitive Vision.”

This compilation of intimate letters, discourse, and previously published essays, provides readers of all traditions with solid food for spiritual thought. Embark with Sy on his extensive exploration of the root of consciousness through Gurdjieffian teachings, dream analysis, “life energy”, and beyond.

Seymour B. GinsburgSeymour B. Ginsburg was born in Chicago, IL, in 1934, and graduated from Northwestern University with degrees in accountancy and law. A founder of the predecessor business and the first president of Toys R Us, he was for many years involved in commodities trading. He met Sri Madhava Ashish while on a private visit to India in 1978. Sy is co-founder of the Gurdjieff Institute of Florida, and the former president of the Theosophical Society in south Florida.

He is also the author of Gurdjieff Unveiled (Lighthouse) and co-author of Gurdjieff: A New Introduction to His Teaching.  Sy is a lecturer and teacher on theosophical subjects.  He currently divides his time between South Florida and Chicago.

The publisher of The Masters Speak is Quest Books.

Michael NeillMichael Neill is an internationally renowned success coach and the best-selling author of You Can Have What You Want, Feel Happy Now! and the Effortless Success audio program. He has spent the past 20 years as a coach, adviser, friend, mentor and creative spark plug to celebrities, CEO's, royalty, and people who want to get more out of their lives. His books have been translated into 8 languages, and his public talks and seminars have been well received at the United Nations and on five continents.

Michael hosts a weekly talk show on HayHouseRadio  and he’s the author of the new book, Supercoach: 10 Secrets to Transform Anyone's Life.  The publisher is Hay House.

“Why does this always happen to me?”

“What did I do wrong to deserve this?”  “Why don’t I ever get what I’m entitled to?”

If you’ve asked yourself any of the above questions, then you’ve been thinking like a victim.  According to Michael Neill, you’d be better off asking, “What is the hidden opportunity in this situation?” or “How can I transform these circumstances into something creative and productive, filled with opportunities?” In his new book, Neill reveals the secrets to stop thinking like a victim and start living a happier, more productive life.

“The fact is, with our recession and rocky economy, unemployment on the rise, and the stock market so volatile, it’s easy to continually come up with new reasons to justify feeling like a victim,” says Neill.  “But people don’t realize that they are creating their own reality, their own self-fulfilling prophesy of victimization.  Life is a contact sport — stuff happens; some people get sidetracked with self-pity while others survive and create a positive outlook about the situation.”

Michael will identify how negative thinking can be detrimental to your well-being and offer ways to turn these thoughts into a creative, productive force.

Tuesday April 6, 2010 - Author Dacher Keltner and Filmmaker Jerry Zucker

Author Dacher Keltner

Dacher KeltnerAre humans wired for compassion, as they seem to be for greed and self-interest?  We’re going to discuss that with Dacher Keltner.

Dacher Keltner, Ph.D, is faculty director and founder of GGSC, Greater Good Science Center, at University of California at Berkeley, where he is also a professor of psychology and the executive editor of Greater Good magazine, published by GGSC. A leading expert in social intelligence and a prolific author, Dr. Keltner has received numerous national prizes and grants. He studies the nature of human goodness, including compassion, awe, laughter, beauty, and love, as well as the effects of power, hierarchy, social class, psychopathology, and moral intuitions.  Dr. Keltner is author of two books,

Professor Keltner received his B.A. from the University of California, Santa Barbara and his Ph.D. from Stanford University, and he completed three years of post-doctoral work with Paul Ekman at the University of California, San Francisco. He is the author of more than 80 scholarly articles and two books, Born To Be Good: The Science of a Meaningful Life; and Compassionate Instinct:  The Science of Human Goodness. Both books are published by W.W. Norton & Company.

Dr. Keltner has presented his research to His Holiness the Dalai Lama as part of continuing dialogue between the Dalai Lama and scientists. An outstanding, compassionate speaker, he has won two University-wide awards for distinguished teaching, and Wired magazine named a podcast from his course on human emotion one of the five best in the country. His work has been featured in the New York Times, Time magazine, on CNN, and on KQED's "Forum with Michael Krasny," among other media outlets.

Filmmaker Jerry Zucker

Jerry ZuckerMilwaukee-born filmmaker Jerry Zucker attended Shorewood High School with his older brother, David. It was there, in student variety shows, that the Zuckers began displaying the lampoonish Mad Magazine-style humor that would distinguish their later work. While attending the University of Wisconsin in Madison, the Zuckers' longtime family friend Jim Abrahams founded the Kentucky Fried Theater comedy troupe, which by 1978 had gained enough industry prestige to bankroll the zany sketch film Kentucky Fried Movie (1978), directed by John Landis. The film set the future Zucker standard: wild parodies of movie genres played out by an utterly straight-faced cast, looney non-sequitur jokes and running gags filling each frame, hilarious celebrity cameos, and outrageous (and endearingly childish) visual puns.

On the strength of Kentucky Fried Movie's 20-million-dollar take, the Zucker/Abrahams team put together their first mainstream feature for Paramount, 1980's Airplane!, a scattershot satire of the 1957 airline meller Zero Hour. The Zucker boys and Abrahams agreed to this project only on the provision that the three men be allowed to co-direct the film themselves, a triumvirate that held strong throughout the rest of the '80s. The Zucker/Abrahams style would always be hit and miss, but adherents preferred to cherish those hits. The success of Airplane! enabled Zucker/Abrahams to produce a limited 1982 summer replacement series, Police Squad, starring Airplane! cast member Leslie Nielsen as diligent but supremely incompetent police lieutenant Frank Dreben (the casting of heretofore "serious" actors like Nielsen, Lloyd Bridges, and Robert Stack as pompous buffoons was another Zucker/Abrahams trademark). Fans of Police Squad consider the series the best ever, but the ABC network was nervous with the project, complaining that it didn't have a laughtrack to let the audience know what was funny and that the joke-a-minute style required the audience to actually have an attention span.

Zucker/Abrahams' next project, Top Secret (1984), though a box-office disappointment, hilariously maintained the Airplane/Police Squad trend of "inside" jokes referring to the writer/directors' hometown of Milwaukee. (The East German national anthem was sung to the tune of the anthem for Shorewood High School). The Zucker/Abrahams team was back on target with its Naked Gun and Hot Shots theatrical films, though there was a marked attrition rate in the inevitable sequels.

GhostIn 1990, Zucker astounded his fans (and non-fans) with his sensitive solo direction of Ghost, a romantic fantasy that became one of the top-grossing films of the year and won an Oscar for supporting actress Whoopi Goldberg.

Jerry Zucker has since fluctuated between his satirical films and more serious works like First Knight with Sean Connery, and A Walk In The Clouds with Keanu Reeves.

Cleve holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Irvine, a Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in Social Ethics and Leadership Development from the University of Southern California.

David GibbonsBritish-born David Gibbons is host of the radio show In Discussion on VoiceAmerica (see:  www.davidgibbons.org), in-depth interviews with leading-edge opinion leaders from all fields and walks of life.  David's show is broadcast through frank, positive and life-changing exchange, designed with the sole purpose of leading to a re-birth of our world community.  Says Hollywood Cinematographer George Mooradian about David's show: "Bold, enlightened, avant-garde, even radically green. A great interviewer is a national treasure for the human odyssey."

Beginning on March 31st, and at the end of every month thereafter, David will air New Letters from America following in the footsteps of Alistair Cooke's journey across the United States, between the post-war years to his passing in 2004. His original Letters from America began in 1946 and were enormously successful for the BBC. The series finally came to an end 58 years (2,869 installments) later, in March 2004. Cooke was 95 years old and reluctantly retired on advice from doctors. He died shortly after having left a legacy of American history during a period of change and volatility. As a boy and into adulthood Gibbons was enchanted by the regular Sunday morning radio program broadcast on BBC's Radio Four. His father rarely missed the programs that he had followed himself from their inception in 1946. The New Letters from America will continuing from where Cooke left off with attentive and passionate commentary on the economic, social and political status of the country today.

David will also launch The Years - "Charting the years of our lives among the generation of all generations." Says David Gibbons:  "Never before in social history has the world ever seen such a convergence of profound information supplied from people around the world. A convergence driven to supply people's position in love, life and work - with an energy that will deliver inspiring findings. Findings that will chart the human heart in a global society moving through paradigm shifts in its fragility and security. Through the power of modern media tied with passionate information gathering gifts The Years is a movement sweeping off the feet those yearning for signs of commonality with people everywhere. The power of determination to create communal conscientiousness is about to empower all humankind with the facts from which we all need to find a way to survive as the generation of all generations."

Tuesday February 23, 2010 - Authors Homer Hickam and Dror Ashuah

Homer HickamHomer Hickam - For those of you who’ve seen the popular movie October Sky, you may remember it was the story of Homer Hickam, the son of a coalminer in Coalwood, West Virginia, who led a group of boys who built rockets.  It was about the passion and dreams of youth, and in the case of the real-life Homer, of dreams fulfilled.  October Sky was based on Homer Hickam’s autobiographical novel, Rocket Boys: A Memoir, which was a #1 New York Times Best Seller, and is studied in many American and international school systems.
Homer joined NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center in 1981 as an aerospace engineer. During his NASA career, he worked in spacecraft design and crew training. His specialties at NASA included training astronauts on science payloads, and extra-vehicular activities (EVA). He also trained astronaut crews for many Spacelab and Space Shuttle missions, including the Hubble Space Telescope deployment mission, the first two Hubble repair missions, Spacelab-J (the first Japanese astronauts), and the Solar Max repair mission. Dror B. AshuahDror Ashuah - “It is the grandest time in your history as humans on this planet and nothing you know will stay the same.”  With words such as these, “Conversation with Angels: And So Be It” (Volume I and II) by Dror B. Ashuah contain the transmission of inspirational and sometimes “mind-blowing” messages from the angelic dimension, in preparation for an unprecedented time of global change and transition.

Dror Ashuah, a former Israeli soldier who participated in battle, a traumatic experience that began an internal transformation, traveled a journey which ultimately led to a profound encounter with energies from a higher frequency; a group of beings who declare their connection with us and their love for us.

Conversations With Angels“The angels tell us that earth is going through a monumental shift,” he writes.  “Our collective consciousness is going through a vibrational shift as if we were attuned to one radio station and the dial were turning to another.  Much of what we assume to be true today is about to change.  All of us are about to transform as well; and the angels ask us to get ready.”

The paradox is that “this information is coming from a source that is in you,” convey the angels to the author.  “The simple explanation is that you are linear and this information comes from the Circle.  It connects to the circular part in you….(The messages) are meant to wake you up on the cellular level to what you already know and remind you that it is time to get out of bed.  You have chosen us to bring this to you and not vise versa.”

“You are much larger than you can ever imagine and your group is busy in creating things that you can not even grasp.”

Tuesday February 9, 2010 - Authors Thomas Walker and Rabbi Leah Novick

Thomas WalkerThomas Walker, author of "The Force Is With Us: The Higher Consciousness That Science Refuses to Accept"

Inspired by encounters with his son beyond the grave, Tom Walker discovered not only that the paranormal has been exhaustively studied but that convincing evidence supports its authenticity - despite modern science's rigid bias against it.  He defines the force, which world esoteric traditions call prana or chi and Wilhelm Reich called orgone, as an energy field that gives movement and life to everything.

The Force Is With Us

An enthralling narrator, Walker cites numerous studies and proven data from government scientists on telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition and psychokinesis - all of which make sense in light of the force.  He concludes in line with theoretical physics that consciousness is the primary reality, offering persuasive evidence that what we experience in physical life is, in his words, "only a prelude to eternity."

Rabbi Leah NovickRabbi Leah Novick, author of "On The Wings Of Shekhinah: Rediscovering Judaism's Divine Feminine"

On the Wings of Shekhinah takes readers on a guided walk through Jewish history and scripture, revealing along the way the feminine face of God, Shekhinah, a mystical figure that can be found in many traditional world religions but one who, until now, has merely been alluded to by the sages and patriarchal societies.

On The Wings Of Shekhinah

Rabbi Novick draws from the elements of the natural world, starting with the Torah and the many legends that emphasize the presence of the Shekhinah.  She then discusses the Talmud and the ethical nature of the human relationship with the Divine Presence, who appears in the context of positive human activities such as study, prayer and charity.
